Research Interests
- The Crusades from Islamic and Latin perspectives, The Arabic–Islamic legacy of the Crusades in the modern era (19th–20th centuries), Jewish–Muslim relations through the Cairo Genizah, History of the Ayyubids and Mamluks, European–Islamic entanglements between the 12th and 15th centuries
Research Projects
- 2016–2018: Egyptian–Italian bilateral project “History of Peacemaking between East and West (11th–15th Centuries)”, funded by the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT, Egypt) and the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR, Italy). Role: Co-founder and Scientific Coordinator of the Egyptian team.
- 2018–2020: Egyptian–Italian bilateral project “Intercultural Influences between East and West (11th–21st Centuries)”, funded by ASRT (Egypt) and CNR (Italy). Role: Member of the Egyptian team; contributions to conferences, research mobility, and publications.
- 2017–2021: Doctoral Project “Between Imagination and Reality: The Prester John Legend and Its Impact on the Crusader–Muslim Conflict (12th–13th Centuries)”, funded by the Yusuf Jameel Scholarship, Philipps-Universität Marburg.
- 2021–2022: Postdoctoral Project “Between Memory and Historiography: The Crusades in Modern Egyptian Scholarship”, funded by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation, CNMS, Philipps-Universität Marburg.
- 2022–2025: Subproject II “Jewish–Muslim Social Relations in the Premodern Mediterranean”, within the ERC-funded project “Arabic Poetry in the Cairo Genizah (APCG)”, Trinity College Dublin.
