2000-2008 Ärztliche Vorprüfung (with disctinction) in medicine and Staatsexamen (with disctinction) in history, German language and literature, psychology and educational sciences at Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich and Università degli Studi di Pisa.

Research interests:

Cultural, political and social history of the Roman-German Empire, Italy and the Mediterranean including connections to the Maghreb and the Near East. Especially history of the German-Italian Hohenstaufen era (12th to 13th century), history of the Norman to Angevin Kingdom of Sicily with its Muslim minority and its interdependence with Islamic realms, and history of the Mediterranean port cities Pisa and Genova with their strategies of documentation. Transcultural transfer, migration and communication, local know-hows and mentalities. Interpretation of pictorial and material sources and digitally based Social Network Analysis.
A new project investigates the history of emotions in the political sphere from the 8th to the 15th century.

German Historical Institute in Rome: research scholarships.
Italian-German Historical Institute in Trento: language course and research scholarship.
